New Semester, New Experiences
When I first learned that my Christmas break was cut down because I had to take a class before the Spring semester, I was less than thrilled. This was a mistake on my part: I should have been excited. The only reason for this anxiety was because going into college I had no idea what my friendships would look like, or if I would even make any new friends. Fall semester would give me close friends, but J-Term got me plugged into an amazing group of friends who did so much together.
My experience of J-term is not just specific to me. Upperclassmen at OBU have told stories about their J-Terms, and they’re just as great. So your J-Term if and when you go to OBU is sure to be fantastic…. Especially if it snows. For a few days in the term we were blessed with snow days, and on the very first day we had a full scale war. It was pretty awesome because our group of guys got our RA Garrett as well as the Dean of Students Odus Compton to throw some snow.
More recently, in the Spring Term, I’ve been getting used to a new schedule, new classes, and new study habits. In the middle of this new stuff, an old dream from the beginning of my friends and my OBU experience saw its fulfillment. We were blessed to get to lead worship in class chapel. What an incredible experience: our entire group was so thankful that we got to praise God and lead others in doing so, and I would highly advise that those who love to worship God and are interested in leading worship try to lead a class chapel in your freshman year.
Turning back to the way this new semester looks, it is going to be fantastic. An all-star cast of professors and interesting classes is what drew me to OBU in the first place, and I have not been disappointed yet in those two regards.
And let us consider how we may spur one another toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage 0ne another-and all the more when you see the Day approaching
