Random Acts of Kindness
In this season, I have taken into account how many things people do for us that often go unnoticed. Sometimes the time-consuming deeds people do just out of the goodness of their hearts can determine the course of the receiver’s day. It takes merely minutes for someone to brighten up someone else’s day. I feel that we are often distracted by our own daily routines to realize that one of our closest friends is having a rough day or that our roommate is feeling homesick. So, I challenge us to seek positivity in the course of our daily routine and to encourage our brothers and sisters by lifting them up in not just words, but in deeds.
One thing that made me value to seek this out daily is the fact that my roommate is big on making the bed for me and writing me cute notes on post-its for me to read whenever I walk into the room after classes. It may seem bizarre or that it really is not that big of a deal, but after having three exams and several interviews in a week, it is nice to come back to a clean room and encouragement.
In the business of our lives, we should always seek to acknowledge those who are just as busy. It is so easy to become consumed by our own thoughts and worries, but when we draw the attention away from ourselves and seek ways to admire the people we do life with, we lead much more content paths.
So, basically what I am saying is you don’t have to go crazy and spend a lot of money. Cover a friend’s coffee. Surprise someone with candy. Write a cute letter and put it in someone’s mailbox. You just made someone’s day. You’re welcome.
