How OBU Has Changed My Spring Breaks Forever
This Spring Break I was blessed to experience Zion National Park with four of my friends from OBU. The blessing was a new sense of awe for God. Most people are in awe after seeing naturally beautiful moments, but I know that in the very least I have a tendency to say to myself “Wow, that’s awesome” instead of “Wow, HE’s awesome”. This is what I mean when I say that OBU has changed my Spring Breaks because God used OBU to provide the teaching which changes how a person sees their entire life.
During the driving hours of the same week, I was reading a book by C.S. Lewis called Perelandra, a science fiction novel with strong parallels to the creation story in Genesis. Reading all of Lewis’ description of paradise while walking in the park and experiencing incredible sights and hikes, it took on a new meaning. It was a fantastic experience to work on the tough hikes and be rewarded to see God’s creation and to share the struggle with my friends. Spring breaks have so much potential. In fact, several of my friends travelled to New York City for a GO (mission) trip, and have been an influence in inspiring me to go out and do missions work.
I never would have that thought that OBU would be used in the way that it was. I knew that I would learn things, and be better prepared for ministry, but what I had not expected was to have my worldview changed. Through OBU, God has blessed my poor soul with opportunities which I really do not deserve. The same thing has happened with my roommate, and my friends. This school may not be a place that everybody is called to, but it is definitely a place of calling: a place used by God, and it is incredible to see changed lives.
“Praise the Lord. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His might heavens. Praise Him for his acts of power; praise Him for His surpassing greatness. Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of the cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord” – Psalm 150
