A Day in the Life of a Bison
I never was able to participate in such a wonderful event like Night on the Hill. Being so far away from OBU, I never really could arrange my schedule around such events. But I absolutely love it when people from far away, or even close, come to visit our beautiful community. I just have so much to be thankful for that I could ramble on for days with my cliché comments about how I loved the atmosphere when I first stepped foot on campus. I know every prospective student hears, “we just have such a great sense of community” from probably every college they have ever visited, and so I think it is important that every student finds for themselves where they seem to fit.
I would encourage each prospective student right now, as they are approaching the final months of high school, to come up with questions whether it be about food (hello! Important!), career options with major (reason why you’re going to college!), personal habits or ethics (you’re living here, you may as well be a bit comfortable!), to ask when venturing out to prospective colleges. But please, do not overthink it. I feel like every person usually has that “AHA!” moment when they know where they are supposed to be. God will just tug on you and sometimes the decision may seem too far-fetched, but if He wants you to be somewhere, do not push that voice aside. Listen to it because He is there to place us somewhere He knows we will flourish.
Know that in the midst of discovering where God is calling you to be, that if you are planted in Him, you will see fruition. Psalm 92:12-13 says, “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” Do not lose hope in His plans for you, because at the end of the day, He will have you just where He wants you to be. Best of luck with your decision! I will be praying for your guidance every step of the way.
On another note, I am glad that I am able to tell people how passionate I am about OBU by taking advantage of hosting a prospective student during Night On the Hill. It was my honor to be able to host Bry this past month. Experiences like these are such a blessing!
