fall break, family, and follies.

Three things:
#1. Fall break. Or as OBU calls it, Fall Free Days. At my high school, fall break was 2 weeks. You would think I would be disappointed when I heard that OBU’s fall break was only 2 days, technically 4 if you include the weekend, maybe 4 and a half if you finish class early on Wednesday. Regardless, it was the perfect amount of time for me to take a breather and enjoy some of what used to be normal life, after a long, almost 3 months of new, exciting, not so normal life.
After work on Wednesday I loaded up my Honda and drove straight to OKC, better known as home. Upon arrival my mom was cleaning, putting up fall decor, and making our house smell like America’s favorite fall essential: pumpkin spice. It was an exciting home coming. Thursday we headed over to my great-grandparents’ house next door. We caught up on all possible topics including college, friends, politics, etcetera. Friday, we took a road trip to Guthrie, Oklahoma, visited one of Oklahoma’s best and cutest coffee shops, as well as shopped in many, many antique shops.
The weekend was spent catching up with friends, inevitably working on homework, and spending as much time trying to enjoy the comfort family & home naturally brings.
Which brings me to topic #2.
Family. Family weekend was (strategically, I assume) the weekend before fall free days. My parents, sister, 2 cousins, and heck of a best friend (shoutout to her for dealing with my crazy family) came up Saturday to spend the evening with me. We went to dinner, and shopped at the wonderful one-story Shawnee mall. It was a great (slightly cheesy) reminder that home is truly where the heart is. On that night, my heart was filled with laughter and smiles. I got to show them around campus, catch up on everything going on at home, and take them to Freshman Follies!
Annnnnd last but not least, topic #3
Freshman Follies. A show including good music, cheesy skits, and lots of fog. I got to watch my fellow classmates do what they love, including my most talented friend ever, Raelyn, who performed the best mashup of twenty one pilots I’ve ever heard. Not to mention the stage band, in which a Jonas Brothers song, and TWO John Mayer songs were featured. OBU sure does have the best campus life activities in my totally non bias opinion.
Ultimately the past couple of weeks have been so heart warming, just as the beginning of fall/the holiday season should be. I can’t wait for more fun weekends at OBU, more road trips back to OKC, and more family visits as we approach the latter half of the semester.
